犀牛篮球建模教程-modeling: Basketball (英文)

I started playing with computer graphics when I was 15, on a shiny Amiga 500 (using a software called Sculpt Animate 4D) and a fantastic 2D software called Photon Paint. I love expecially the shading and lighting aspects of CG. Anyway as for now I�m not a professional 3D artist. It�s more like an exciting hobby. My present job si more focused on multimedia developing and web design.
When I started this project I wanted to make something different from my previous renders, leaving apart any sort of complex modelling work and concentrating more on the emotional side of the final image. I was triyng to express some sad feelings� and what could be more sad than a rainy day? As main subject I choosed a lonely basketball left on the ground� the original title of the image was �The end of the game�

First of all, let�s draw a simple sphere

Now add 2 thin toruses, placed just like in the pic.

Draw a cirle and place it as shown in the figure. It�s diamater should be around the 80% of the sphere\'s diameter.

Use the command �curve->curve form objects->project� to achieve the result shown in the pic. You must choose the circle as the curve to project and the sphere as the target object. Now you have a nice path to use in the next step.

You have the path, but before you proceed you must draw the cross section of the object you�re going to model. So draw a small circle and place it as shown in the figure. Its radius should be similar to the radius of the two torus you made in the step nr 02 (i mean the radius of the torus section!)

Now use the command �Surface->sweep one rail� to build the next model of our scene. You must select the projection of the circle (phase 03) as rail curve, and the small circle (phase 04) as cross section curve.
In the figure you can see the result of this operation.

Now simply mirror the �tube� on the lower side of the sphere

Finally, make a boolean difference between the sphere and the other objects we made (the two torus and the two �tubes�).
Now you have your basketball.
